Charles Ayden AllenJuly 22, 1926 ~ January 7, 2019 (age 92)
Charles Ayden Allen grew up a farm boy in Arkansas and Missouri and built small wood projects from discarded apple crates. He met Mom at Johnson Island School just south of Kennett, MO.
He played basketball and baseball and “always had his lessons” in school. When his parents moved back to Kennett, he rode his bike 40 miles each direction on weekends to continue school in Delaplain, AR. A medical condition kept him out of the service during WWII, so he taught one-room school to help fill the gap in male teachers. He moved his family to Calvert
City, KY from Sikeston, MO when the plants were built and was on hand when National Carbide began production. He built custom kitchen cabinets part time in new houses all over Western KY, and later, with Billy Joe and Orvis Strader, formed Calvert City Pallet Co. His passion was woodworking and he and Orvis (a friend he called a brother) built beautiful custom furniture after their retirement from Air Products.
Dad is survived by his son Charles Randall Allen (Gail Allen) of Burke, VA, and his two daughters; Pamela Jo Allen O’Risky (Mike O’Risky) of Mt. Vernon, IN and Connie Lea Allen Harden (Mike Harden) of Harrodsburg, KY.
